Sony Ericsson to Showcase over 20 new Games Optimized for Xperia Play

In our Xperia Play review, we were concerned about the inability to discover games that are adapted for the handheld's controls. Therefore, it's only fair to mention that a bevy of new titles is on the horizon -- some old and some brand new and all optimized specifically for this type of button-mashing. Headline titles include Minecraft (a port we've already seen in action) as well as Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both of which have been accruing headshots on iOS devices for a while in the past. Sony Ericsson and Gameloft team to launch Rainbow Six - Shadow Vanguard exclusively on Xperia (tm). PLAY. More than 20 games will be on display at E3 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard during June and July.



London, June 2, 2011 - Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Gameloft again to offer an exclusive experience exclusively for its top gaming phone Xperia(tm), PLAY. This exclusive experience offers access to Tom Clancy's full-on spy thriller shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Shadow Vanguard, modified by Ubisoft. Utilizing the phone's incredible graphics capabilities and game-changing controlpad, Xperia(tm) PLAY brings the high-octane action game to the Android operating system for the first time. The Android version will be available to Xperia(tm), PLAY customers in Western Europe during June and July.



Adapted from the famous Ubisoft's video game franchise, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is one of the most popular video game brands. It's a tactical , first-person shooter that is high-energy and fun. The game is based on an imagined international counter-terrorist force called Rainbow. It focuses more on tactics and stealth than guns and firepower, weapons (including assault rifles and high-caliber handguns) as well as uniforms, equipment and uniforms are chosen to suit each operative's skills and the purpose.



Robert Styppa is Vice President Western Europe at Sony Ericsson. He told me that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, Shadow Vanguard has a huge fan base and an interesting gameplay. "The amazing graphics and the unique capabilities of the full gamepad create a an experience unlike any other."

In June and July 2011, consumers across Western Europe who have an Xperia(tm) Play will be in a position to download a no-cost copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard. During this time , the game will be available on Android only on the Sony Ericsson Xperia(tm) PLAY.



Sony Ericsson also announced 20 new games, of which 10 are exclusive, optimized for Xperia(tm), PLAY. Many of the new games will be showcased at E3 the world's largest games expo, which runs from June 7 to 9.



The new titles provide broad appeal to different users and usage occasions from popular, innovative, massively multi-player online titles (MMO) to immersive titles and addicting graphically rich new content for casual play.



Amongst the titles announced today is Minecraft(tm) which is the highly anticipated game by the Swedish indie developer Mojang. Minecraft(tm) is one of the fastest-growing game franchises ever, with over eight million registered users announced to date and over 50k new players joining each day.



Sony Ericsson can confirm that new games from Sony Computer Entertainment's stable of classic PlayStation 1 titles will be coming to Xperia(tm) PLAY shortly.



Sony Ericsson supports the Android ecosystem through partnerships with major industry players like Unity and Havok. This collaboration is helping to create an ever-growing ecosystem. Sony Ericsson will launch a programme known as "Stand Out from the crowd" to help and support innovative game developers. This program allows game developers to be part of the Xperia (tm) PLAY story and give their games the attention they require. Sony Ericsson will be present at E3 in Los Angeles, June 7-9, to offer first hands-on demos of Xperia(tm) PLAY and many of the upcoming games at the Sony Ericsson booth 713.
