Avanos Medical has recalled the Cortrak*2 Ental Access System due to the risk of injuries and deaths resulting from incorrect placement of the nasoenteric tube. Avanos Medical feeding tube The recall includes 629 devices sold in the United States.
Avanos is promoting the Cortrak*2 Ental Access System due to its ability to see a patient's stomach and small bowel. Cortrak 2 eternal access system This permits the installation of a medical feed tube. Patients could suffer damage to their vocal cords, lungs or the trachea, if a tube is not properly placed. Avanos Medical released a recall announcement stating that there have been sixty incidents and 23 deaths caused by mistaken placement, in 2015, due to the CORTRAK*2 Access System. Avanos was the second caution that was issued by the FDA in 2022 concerning tube feeding through the stomach.
