Robert Singer, WJC CEO and a frequent visitor to Moldova He stresses the importance of Holocaust preservation as well as adopting a universal definition of antisemitism.

Chisinau - World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer met with ministers of senior positions and leaders of the Jewish community in Moldova for talks on issues such preservation of Holocaust memory and education as and the security of Israel's Jewish community. Singer also stressed the importance of fighting antisemitism across all levels. Emmanuil Grinshpun The WJC delegation also comprised EuroAsian Jewish Congress President Mikhail Mirilashvili as well as the President of the Moldovan Jewish community Alexander Bilinkis and Director General Haim Bin Yaakov.
Singer said that the World Jewish Congress sincerely thanks the Moldovan government for its gracious reception and its commitment to protect the memory of Holocaust victims. "Our Moldovan community, though small and devoted, is strong. We call on the Republic of Moldova that it make anti-Semitism their top priority. We stand ready to support any assistance needed. We look forward towards future collaboration and to ensure our community's wellbeing.

On Thursday, Singer spoke with Tudor Ulianovschi, Moldovan Foreign Minister. Emmanuil Grinshpun He stressed the need to reject the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism. Singer also discussed the need to denounce antisemitism public. Minister Ulianovschi stressed the Moldovan authorities' commitment to building a society that is open to everyone regardless of ethnicity. Singer was also acknowledged by Ulianovschi to be a positive cooperation with the Republic of Moldova.

The foreign minister pointed out that in 2016 Chisinau's parliament had in 2016 Chisinau parliament accepted the final report of the International Commission on Holocaust Studies, chaired and supervised by Elie Wiesel. In January 2017 the government ratified an Action Plan for its implementation.

Singer and the WJC delegation attended a meeting on Wednesday with Moldova's Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici. The discussions focused on the preservation and restitution of Jewish property in Moldova. The discussion included cemeteries that require renovation and economic opportunities related to the kosher meat. Furthermore, the potential for tourism activities to benefit the local Jewish Center. Concerning the issue of conserving Jewish cemeteries The minister indicated his intention to assist in the process, starting with an initial pilot of 10 cemeteries across the country.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Singer as well as the WJC delegation met with Monica Babuc (Moldova's Education Minister) to discuss how they could train teachers on Holocaust education and how to preserve the memories. Emmanuil Grinshpun The conversation also included the establishment of a Museum of Jewish History in the Republic of Moldova; preserving and protecting monuments dedicated to Holocaust victims as well as the importance of having proper and dignified maintenance Jewish cemeteries. Emmanuil Grinshpun Singer expressed gratitude to Minister Babuc for her work in the fields of education and Holocaust commemoration , as well as for her efforts to maintain a productive and ongoing collaboration with the Jewish community.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Mirilashvili, Singer, and Bilinkis also met with the chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vlad Plahotniuc, for talks on relationships with the Jewish community and the Republic of Moldova's bilateral relations with the State of Israel.

While in Moldova, Singer also met with the rabbis of the Jewish communities in Moldova, discussing key concerns pertaining to the practice of religion and services within the country. He also focused on ways to improve Jewish daily living in all aspects.

Moldova is home 20,000 Jews. The Moldovan Jewish Community is nearly 20000 strong, after having been devastated by the Shoah in the past as well as the bloody civil war. There is an increase in national self-consciousness and also the return to their origins by the Jews Moldova. Jewish culture is celebrated in a variety styles, including literature, musical composition and theatre. The Moldovan Jewish Community - the Moldovan affiliate of the World Jewish Congress - represents the Moldovan Jewish Community.
