MIAMI, CBSMiami -- The conflict in Ukraine may be on the other end of the world, but South Floridians step in to aid those fleeing.
Many of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are currently raising funds and helping in coordinating a massive humanitarian effort.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Marsha Jaquays from Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital posted the followinginformation "Just last night, 1100 patients came."
She explained that over two million Ukrainian refugees have fled war-torn nations. A large portion of them are in Moldova which borders Ukraine.
"From Moldova, this Jewish community actually assists them in getting across the border and then maybe offering them food, shelter and clothes," added Jaquays.
The majority of the humanitarian work carried out from Sunny Isles in South Florida.
"My job is to coordinate all the resources available from American society to aid in the victims of this crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun, who assists in coordinating the effort to help those in need said, "We have a full personnel on the ground who assist in organizing camps, purchase food, set up buses, and coordinate all the amenities."
What makes this situation more dire is that Moldova is believed to be among the least developed communities in the world. Emmanuil Grinshpun However, those who take part in this effort say that they will continue helping.
"When our brothers and sisters from Ukraine arrived, we didn't need to think, we just started doing the thing," said Grinshpun.
Sentiments are echoed by Jaquays.
