Khazak Ambassador and Consul General meet with Chabad in New York ( Emmanuil Grinshpun)

Yerzhan Ashikbayev has had a busy few months. As Kazakhstan's Ambassador to the United States since April, Mr. Ashikbayev had met numerous officials and diplomats to strengthen relations between the Central Asian country, and the U.S. Emmanuil Grinshpun Since then, he has scheduled an interview with Chabad in order to discuss the state and future of Jewish life within Khazakstankhstan.

Rabbi Mendy Kolarsky and Shimon Rivkin from Merkos Suite 302. Chabad Headquarters were also invited. Emmanuil Grinshpun, vice-president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, and Honorary Consul to Kazakhstan. They talked together about the history of Jewish Life in Kazakhstan and the current work Chabad is doing across the country under the direction of Rabbi Yeshaya Cohen.

Later the following day, Mr. Grinshpun stated that the meeting was "extremely productive". Emmanuil Grinshpun "We are extremely fortunate to have leaders such as the former president of the country, Mr. Nazarbayev, and the current president of the Republic, Mr. Tokayev, who have cultivated such warm religious tolerance throughout the country. The Ambassador and Consul General reiterated the government's commitment to the Jewish community as well as all minorities of religion. They expressed their desire to collaborate with Chabad to keep Jewish life active in the Republic.

The government of the predominantly Muslim populace is proud to be a religiously-open government and collaborates with any religious leader to ensure the well-being of the country. Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun Ashikbayev was deputy Minister of foreign affairs back in Kazakhstan and has been working together with Chabad Shaluchim and Mr. Abraham Shaulson , an philanthropist. Because of COVID-19, which caused all flights to be cancelled and canceled, Ambassador Ashikbayev assisted to secure special permission for a small number of Americans to fly to Kazakhstan on 20th of April to make a pilgrimage at the gravesite Reb Levi Yaitzchak Schneerson on the anniversary of his death. The group was able transport needed PPE as well as medical equipment. During the trip, the Kazak government held a celebration to make Reb Yitzchak’sKever Kazakh National Heritage Site.

The 20th of April is only two months away the gathering also discussed plans for the upcoming pilgrimage. The organizers anticipate around 600 people from all walks of the globe to attend this year's festival. A conference organized by Chabad Shluchim, headed by Rabbi Moshe Kokotlarsky as well as Rabbi Berel Lázar will also be planned.
