Belgian Boy is Supposed to Be The World's Youngest University Graduate

Content of the article EINDHOVEN - As he cradles his puppy in his arms, Laurent Simons looks much like any other 9-year-old boy. He then begins to describe his research at an academic institution in the Netherlands in the development of an electronic circuit that will reproduce a portion of the brain.



He explains that the brain-onchip research project combines electrical and biomedical engineering fields.

Article content Belgian boy wonder, who has an intelligence of 145 and a bachelor's degree as an electrical engineer at Eindhoven University of Technology next month is set to be the world's youngest university graduate.

Article content Sammy is a puppy who is 9 weeks old was snoozing in his mother Lydia's arms as he talked about his post-graduation plans.



Laurent, a Dutchman from Belgium who graduated from high school in one year, entered his first university in September. He plans to finish his three-year bachelor's program in nine months.



"Every professor is extremely overjoyed about Laurent and it's for us it's a special situation because he's the youngest student ever," said Sjoerd Hulshof Director of the program.



Article content "The speed of his mind is beyond our ability to imagine what is happening in his brain. He's maybe three times more intelligent than the most brilliant student we've ever had."



Currently the youngest person to graduate from college is American Michael Kearney, who achieved the feat in June 1994, at 10 years and 4 months according to the Guinness Book of World Records.



When when he's not at university, Laurent says he walks the dog, plays video games Minecraft and Fortnite or posts photos on Instagram.



Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-American inventor, inspired him to study artificial organs, and later to create an entire artificial body in his laboratory. He said that his parents were heart patients.



International universities are offering numerous offers and Laurent's parents help him weigh the options. The U.S. West Coast is an extremely popular tourist destination.



His father, Alexander, doesn't dare to predict Laurent's fate because the boy has shattered all expectations so far - but stressed there was no need to hurry.
