It is capable flying and can shoot enormous amounts of energy at Godzilla.

Mechagodzilla began life as a human-built, large robot. It would face Godzilla in the rural countryside. It would need the ability to produce atomic breath to defeat Godzilla. However, the Mechagodzilla’s atomic breath wouldn't be able absorb it. This is the reason why the Mechagodzilla fell to its death in the end.

The ability to change was also planned for the Mechagodzilla. The Transforming Mechagodzilla will use this feature in the movie. It also featured the Smog Monster Hedorah. It was a Smog Monster who would attack Mechagodzilla. This Smog Monster would engulf Mechagodzilla's energy and absorb it. Hedorah, in the film, also had a second head, which would be regenerated by Fire Rodan.
