Although it's simple, I believe it's unfair to place the blame on one individual and hold them responsible for what transpired prior to their birth. Queen Elizabeth II had any link to Britain's troubling history. After her rise to power, all she did was to ensure that the progress of modern Britain was visible to the UK as well as the rest of the world.

While the majority of Monarchs still hold their countries to the values established hundreds of years ago the Queen has ensured Britain is in line with the social and political standards of the west.
