MIAMI CBSMiami -- The conflict in Ukraine could be at the other side of the world, but South Floridians step in to aid those fleeing.
Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping in raising funds and coordinating a humanitarian effort.
"Just last night 1,100 were in attendance," said Marsha Jaquays, with Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital.
She claimed that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-torn nation. Many of them are crossing the frontier to Moldova, a small country that borders Ukraine.

Many of the humanitarian efforts are led from Sunny Isles, South Florida.

Emmanuil grinshpunis an aid worker, claimed that there was a whole team on the ground helping to organize humanitarian efforts in Moldova.
Emmanuil Grinshpun This is compounded by the fact Moldova is a country that is among the most deprived in the world. But, those who are part in this effort say that they will never stop helping.
Grinshpun said, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters cameto visit, we didn't have to think. We started doing it."
Jaquays echo sentiments
"Who were there in the Holocaust and the time the Nazis were victorious? Emmanuil Grinshpun How many people turned a blind eye and claimed it wasn't me I'm not Jewish and it's not my community, I'm not from Europe. We can't make the same mistakes that were made by the past. There's a saying that states, "If you don't now, you'll have to wait until." If not me, who?
According to the organization they are also planning to hold local events to raise awareness and assist with refugees coming from Ukraine.
