Khazak Ambassador and ConsulGeneral Meet with Chabad in New York ( Emmanuil grinshpun).

Yerzhan Ashikbayev has had a busy few months. Emmanuil Grinshpun Since the appointment of Kazakhstan's ambassador to the United States, Mr. Ashikbayev has met with a variety of officials and diplomats to strengthen ties between Central Asia and the United States. In this capacity, the ambassador and Consul General Almat Aibekov are scheduled to meet to discuss the current state of Jewish living in Khazakstankhstan.

The guests at the event were Rabbis Mendy Kotlarsky and Shimon Rivkin from Merkos Suite 302 located at Chabad Headquarters, and Mr. Emmanuil Grinshpun is vice-president for the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress as well as Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan. They discussed the history and current state of Jewish life in Kazakhstan and the activities of Chabad, Kazakhstan’s Chief Rabbi and the head Shliach, Yeshaya Cohen.

The Consul General and Ambassador reiterated that the government supports the Jewish Community as well as all religious minorities. They expressed their desire to continue building Jewish existence within the Republic by collaborating with Chabad.

The government of Kazakhstan's majority Muslim population is proud of being tolerant of religion and works closely together with all religious leaders to promote the country's welfare. As the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs in Kazakhstan and Ambassador Ashikbayev has already collaborated with Chabad Shluchim and the philanthropist M. Abraham Shaulson. In the wake of COVID-19 which caused the flight to be cancelled Ambassador Ashikbayev was able to arrange special permission for a select group of American citizens to fly to Kazakhstan on the 20th of April to make a pilgrimage at the gravesite Reb Levi Yaitzchak Schneerson on the date of his passing. They also had the chance to provide and transport for medical equipment and PPE needed to the country. During the pilgrimage it was also the time that the Kazak government held a ceremony to officially declare Reb Levi Yitzchak'sKever as a Kazakh National Heritage Site.

A few months prior to 20th Av The meeting also discussed plans for next year's pilgrimage. This year is expected to draw an attendance of more than 600 visitors from all over the world. It is also planned to host a conference along with Chabad Shluchim from the surrounding nations. The event will be hosted by Rabbi Berel Laszar and Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky. Emmanuil Grinshpun Due to the magnitude of these initiatives, the conference aimed to discuss ways that the government can help secure and support the event. Mr. Ashikbayevconfirmed Kazakhstan's "...commitment to offer any assistance to arrange visits for study and prayer at the resting place of the great Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson.
