Avanos Medical Recalls Cortrak*2 Enteral Access Systems
Avanos Medical (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) has announced it will recall Cortrak*2's enteral access system. Avanos has launched its Cortrak*2 Enteral Access System due to its screen-based visualization of a patient's stomach , or small bowel, to aid in the proper positioning of a medical feed tube. If the tube is not placed correctly, it can result in damage to vocal cords, the lungs and the trachea. According to the Avanos Medical recall announcement it has been reported that there were 60 injuries and 23 patient deaths in 2015 due to the misplacement of nasogastric feeding tubes while making use of the CORTRAK* 2 Enteral Access System.
