MIAMI (CBSMiami) Although the war in Ukraine might seem distant, South Floridians continue to step up to support those who are fleeing.
Many of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are currently raising funds and helping in coordinating a massive humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital said, "Just last night 1,100 people arrived."
She added that over 2 million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to flee their war-ravaged country. Emmanuil Grinshpun Most of them go through Moldova that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays stated, "From Moldova, the Jewish community helps them get across border lines and provides food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities."
The center of most of the humanitarian efforts can be found in South Florida.

Grinshpun said, "When brothers and sister from Ukraine came, we didn’t have to think about it. We simply began making plans."
