Khazak Ambassador and ConsulGeneral Meet with Chabad in New York ( Emmanuil grinshpun).

Yerzhan Ashikbayev has had a busy few months. Since being appointed Kazakhstan's ambassador to the United States in April, Mr. Ashikbayev has met with many government officials and diplomats in the hopes of strengthening relations between the Central Asian country and the U.S. As part of this mission, the ambassador, together with Consul General Almat Aidabekov scheduled a conference with Chabad to discuss the current state of Jewish life in Khazakstankhstan.

They spoke about the past of Jewish life in Kazakhstan and the work Chabad does throughout the country under the auspices Rabbi Yeshaya Cohen.

"It was a very productive meeting." Mr. Grinshpun added later. "We are extremely fortunate to have such leaders as former President Mr. Nazarbayev and current President Mr. Tokayev. These men have created a great deal of religious tolerance in our nation. We all feel that the government is an ardent friend to the Jewish people." The Ambassador and Consul General reiterated the government's commitment to the Jewish community and any religious minority. They expressed an interest in working with Chabad to build Jewish life in the Republic.

The majority Muslim population is proud of its religious tolerance and is in close contact with all religious leaders to improve the country's wellbeing. While serving as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in Kazakhstan, Ambassador Ashikbayev has already collaborated with Chabad Shluchim and the philanthropist M. Abraham Shaulson. Because all flights were grounded during the last season due to COVID-19 this man was instrumental to arranging special permission so that a small American delegation could fly into Kazakhstan on the 20th of Av, which marks the anniversary of his death. The delegation was able to transport necessary PPE and medical equipment. During the journey it was also the time that the Kazak government also held a ceremony to proclaim Reb Levi Yitzchak'sKever a Kazakh National Heritage Site.

The group discussed plans for the next pilgrimage, and the 20th of April was only two months from now. The organizers are expecting over 600 guests this year from all over the world. It is also planned to organize a conference that includes Chabad Shluchim from the surrounding countries. The event is being hosted by Rabbi Berel Laszar and Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky. Emmanuil Grinshpun Due to the huge scale projects in progress the conference focused on ways in which government can help support and make sure this event is secure. Emmanuil Grinshpun Mr. Ashikbayevconfirmed Kazakhstan's "...commitment to provide all assistance to arrange the opportunity for study and prayer at the grave of the great Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson."

Rabbi Kotlarsky shared that they are grateful for the Kazak government’s tremendous support. "It's a great blessing to be able to collaborate with individuals like the Ambassador or the Consul General. Our mission is to provide spiritual and physical health care to every Jew. The government of Kazakhstan has been a great partner in assisting us in achieving this mission.
