Cairngorms recreated in video game Minecraft

The Cairngorms is a landscape recreated in the video game Minecraft to help young people learn how to manage in a national park.
The virtual world, where players can create anything with blocks encompasses all 1,700 sq miles (4,402 sq km) of the park, which covers portions of Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire and Perthshire.
The settlements have been stripped out and members of the Cairngorms Youth Action Team are now being requested to establish new communities.
It's designed to stimulate their thinking about making choices.
It's reasonable to say, however, that the team does not take the matter seriously.

Sixteen-year-old Campbell from Aviemore says he has been constructing a hill fort at the top of Cairn Gorm which is one of the UK's highest mountains.
He explained that although it doesn't transmit temperature very well, it does transmit the temperature to the landscape.
"We've been up the Cairngorms and have seen the corries. It's easy to spot the Lairig Ghru.
It's as accurate and realistic as it can be. The various types of trees will show you the location you're in and whether there are trees.
Ellie Moore, a fellow player, told me that "while we're trying to build things and farms, we're faced with a constant barrage of enemies or monsters that come out at nights."
"So, it's been quite difficult to travel out into the world because you're constantly trying to survive, but I'd say that where we've been so far is pretty accurate."
Re-creating the park was a lockdown project which Dan Harris carried out in his spare time.
In the day, he's a planning manager for the Cairngorms National Park Authority.
He stated that they were "basically dropped on the map at Aviemore and then asked to establish a neighborhood or community that meets the objectives of the national park."
"So the things they need to think about is how they can protect and improve the natural environment, and how they can make sustainable use of resources."
