Hacker group LulzSec the same group that has previously attacked Sony and Nintendo in the past, has posted that it's committed three distributed denial of service attacks against gaming companies today, bringing down EVE Online's Tranquility server as well as Minecraft's multiplayer features, and the website of the Escapist Magazine. EVE Online's CCP confirmed the outage and attack. The Escapist is not accessible at present. Minecraft creator Notch said that the service was restored, however, it was not operational.
LulzSec has yet to reveal a reason for the attacks however we can guess that it's "for the laulz."
Update: Riot Games' League of Legends servers were also targeted by the group. The login screen of the game displays a message saying that the server is currently busy. However, the company has not yet confirmed this information.
Update: Statement from CCP after the break. EVE Online still seems to be down.
At 17:00 GMT today, CCP became aware of a distributed denial-of service (DDoS) attack against the EVE Online cluster and web servers.
As soon as the service was discovered, it was immediately taken offline. To protect themselves, all of CCP's infrastructure was shut off from the public Internet.

CCP Security is currently conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause the incident, how it occurred and what consequences may have. We also want to ensure that all personal information of our customers is secure.
