Emmanuel Grinshpun. Restoring synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil grinshpun discussed the preservation and restoration of synagogues. However, it was impossible to keep the conversation on just one subject. There were many topics which were discussed during the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. Glad to have a chat with you. We haven't been able to see one another for at least five years. Эммануил Гриншпун Where are you currently located?

The past nine months are divided between Miami and Jurmala. While the geographical area was larger in the past, the pandemic has had profound effects on the way that people live. And, by the way, I can not declare that this is the only cause for worse.

There have been many lines of work for you. Like now?

Diversification isn't going away. If we talk about the major areas of development, it is the development of real estate, IT technologies as well as food production.

Our IT-holdings deal in the first place with changes to tax systems in many countries. Could you briefly define the essence of this product?

Our product permits economic agents to submit reports to the tax authorities online, and the fiscal data operator sees each transaction. My family and I moved to the USA in mid-80s. We can all say that that was when I started to accept customs. Even though I am not a member of the orthodox religion, I feel an inner desire to be a part of the religious life, in whatever way that is the case for the Jewish community I am a part of or in Moldova my home country that I share close ties.

While I'm not a religious person I love history. I recently watched a show about 1492's events that changed Europe's fate. 1492 was for me the year that Columbus discovered America. It was however stated clearly in the programme that 1492 was the year when Columbus discovered America. Эммануил Гриншпун As the departure of Jews started to the Ottoman Empire, it accepted the Jews. I was interested in learning more about the past and the culture of the Jews. Do you have any recommendations for a particular book to me?

There are numerous books. But I have gone through all of them and I would suggest Max Diamond, the two-volume Jewish historian. He is also from Finland.

.... Do we know our family tree? Unfortunately I'm as far as my maternal grandmother and 1910. From the paternal perspective, a step higher, but nothing more.

Our family was an Floresti family for hundreds of years, according to the paternal lines. Documentary evidence and monuments show that the Floresti family was already prospering in 1830. They owned numerous stores, a furniture factory and land plots. Ungheni was also the residence of my maternal ancestors. I'm talking about dates between the 17th-18th Century. Grinshpun is a surname which has German roots is Ashkenazi pure Ashkenazi.

Let's discuss the revival of synagogues. I have been told that you have financed the reconstruction of three synagogues. One is located in Chisinau and the other is in Jurmala; and the third one is in?

The third, and it is the largest, is in Netanya located in Israel. Netanya is a large community center where 1,000 people a day pray. It is a very important item in the spiritual life of Israel. The second Synagogue in Jurmala. The only synagogue in Jurmala was destroyed at the beginning of the Second World War. Before I decided on building an orthodox church in Jurmala I had already talked to Jurmala's local Jews. It turned out to be an extremely successful venture that brought together the Jews of Jurmala. The project actually renovated the Jewish community and it is still functioning well. Three Torahs are now displayed in the synagogue, one of which I gave to the synagogue.

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis and Alexander Weinstein were my co-workers. These synagogues aren't the only ones that I am involved in construction or restoration. I felt it was my responsibility to make every contribution possible to the support for synagogues in the countries I've lived for a long period of time. My contribution is currently being made in Monaco in which a massive community centre that caters to Russian-speaking Jews is being built. It is estimated to cost approximately 12 million dollars. I continue to help Chisinau. The center will soon become the biggest synagogue within the city, the synagogue Rabbi Tsirelson.

In addition to Jurmala, did you invite Rabbis to Chisinau?

Yes. It is not easy to find the right person to manage the community. Because of the interconnectedness of his interests, he should be non-conflict and diplomatic capable of easily integrating into the community. It was a joy to see how the rabbis in both Chisinau as well as Jurmala were able to blend seamlessly into the community's life.

In 2019, you became the first vice-president of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. What does this position signify to you? what does international Jewish organisations influence the world?

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has been an important political entity in post-Soviet Europe, but it isn't the only one. It has offices across Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. I served as Vice President of Congress back in 2010, but the year before I was given the position as the First Vice President. I now have responsibility for the regions in which I've enjoyed strong business and political relations. These are Uzbekistan Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The world's trends show that the barometer of attitudes towards Jews is either still at the same level as it was before or has dipped and is very depressing. "Down" is also often used to mean nations like as the United States, France or Germany. They are not safer for Jews. These are alarming and dangerous processes.

Do you think the pandemic is affecting these processes somehow?

It is not what I consider. Regarding the pandemic I'd prefer to highlight the way a society or a nation can be when they are prepared for any challenge and are able and willing to work in tandem.

Эммануил Гриншпун Exactly. Israel is the only country to offer the complete vaccination of its adults. I consider this to be a an example worthy of consideration and is a positive the kind of experience that other countries need to take into account.
