Emmanuel Grinshpun. The restoration of synagogues and the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress
Emmanuil Grinshpun discussed the topic of the restoration of synagogues during their interview. But limiting one subject in the interview did not work. So, there were more questions in the interview.
Emmanuel, good afternoon. I am glad to have the opportunity to talk to you. We haven't been in contact in at least five or more years. Do you currently reside in?

In the last nine months, Miami and Jurmala split the difference. The boundaries of geography were wider in the past but the pandemic affected people's lives greatly. It is hard to say if this is for the better.

Diversification isn't going from the world. The major areas of growth are in the field of IT technology and real estate as well as food production.

ALIMCOM is an established player in the food and real estate industries. However, IT is still a mystery to me. There are million of uses of IT technology. What areas of IT technology is your passion?

Our IT-holding focus is on reforming the tax systems of a number nations. We have developed or are working on a variety of products that assist with the transfer of a number of business processes related to taxation, as well as "real-time". This is referred to as B2G (Business-to-Government).

They also exist, but we have contracts that are more extensive in Western as well as Eastern Europe and in Latin America. There are currently activities across 14 countries.

What's the essence of your product?

Our product allows tax agents to report electronically to tax authorities. The fiscal data administrator is then able to view all transactions. No, we have five hubs all over the globe , and our main office is in Barcelona.

Why not the Baltics? Are you from there? also?

No. My family's story over many generations is linked to Moldova, or, if we stick to historical names, then Bessarabia. Jurmala was an accidental encounter that happened quite by accident. We were invited to the New Wave by Igor Krutoy, and that was our first encounter with Jurmala. The group began making the trip a regular part of their summer schedule following a series of competitions. However the weather in Miami is not very pleasant in summer. We rented a house for several years, and consequently, we've already purchased it.

Now I can see the reason why my contribution was used to restore one of the synagogues located in Jurmala. There was no need to talk about religiosity then, we were all pioneers and Komsomol members. When did your faith turn?

My family and I relocated to America in the mid-80s. I was introduced to the rituals and customs in the United States. However, even though I am not a member of the orthodox religion, I feel an inner desire to be a part of the religious life, in whatever way, of the Jewish community that I reside in or in Moldova my country of origin that I share close ties.

Although I'm not religious, I am still a lover of the past. Recently I was watching a show on the events of 1492 that changed the fate of Europe. 1492 is when Columbus first discovered America. There are a lot of books there, but I have personally read all of them and highly recommend Max Diamond's two volumes of Jewish history. He himself is Finnish.

.... Do we know the family tree of our family? Unfortunately, I know only my grandmother and 1910. Paternal side: A step above however, not enough.

The paternal line of our family lived in the Floresti region for a number of hundred years. Documentary evidence and monuments indicate that they were already wealthy by the year 1830. They had a furniture manufacturer, many shops, and land plots. My maternal ancestors were in Ungheni. I am referring to dates between the 17th-18th Century. Grinshpun is a surname with German roots, so we're the pure Ashkenazi from Eastern Europe.

The question now is about the restoration or synagogues. I heard that you financed the reconstruction of three synagogues. One of them is located located in Chisinau. Jurmala has the third. What is the one you're talking about?

It is located in Netanya in Israel. It's a huge community center that accommodates 1,000 people each day. It is an important milestone in Israel's religious history. The second synagogue in Jurmala. The only synagogue in Jurmala was destroyed at the start of the Second World War. Before I made the decision to construct an orthodox synagogue, I had talked with several local Jews. I then made the decision to fund its construction and invite Rabbis to visit it. It was a tremendously success project that brought together the Jews from Jurmala. In reality, we rebuilt the Jewish community and it is now operating with success. Three Torahs are currently in the synagogue. I also gave one Torah to the synagogue.

Yes. Alexander Bilinkis (left) and Alexander Weinstein (right) have joined me here. These synagogues aren't the only ones that I am involved in restoration or construction. In all the countries where I have been for a long period I believed it was my responsibility to contribute a feasible contribution to the support of synagogues. My current contribution is in Monaco, where a large community center that caters to Russian-speaking Jews is being built. It is estimated that it will cost around 12 million dollars. I don't stop supporting Chisinau - it will now be the biggest synagogue, the synagogue Rabbi Tsirelson.

Did Jurmala or Chisinau receive an Rabbi?

Yes. It can be very difficult to find the right Rabbi to serve the needs of the community. He must be capable and willing to be integrated into the community's life, due to the many things to do. I am very happy to see that in both Chisinau as well as in Jurmala the rabbis were able to seamlessly integrate into the daily life of their community.

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has been an influential political group in post-Soviet Europe, however it isn't the sole one. It has offices in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. In 2010 I was Vice-President of Congress. The year before I was elected First Vice President. In the present, I am accountable to the region with which I have strong economic and political relations. These are Uzbekistan Tajikistan Kyrgyzstan. Trends in the world show that the barometer of attitudes toward Jews is in the same place as before or has fallen, which is very disappointing. "Down" is also used to describe countries such as the United States, France or Germany. They're no longer secure for Jews. These are extremely dangerous and alarming procedures for us all.

Do you think the pandemic is affecting these processes somehow?

I don't think so. In the context of the pandemic, I'd like to once again emphasize what a community or nation can accomplish when they are ready for any challenges and are capable of working effectively and together.

Exactly. Israel is the world's first country to provide 100% vaccination to its adult population. I believe that this is an example worthy of consideration and is a positive the kind of experience that other countries need to take into account.
