Gameplay
Signalis offers a basic gameplay experience. is reminiscence of the original classic survival games like quiet hill or resident evil. It's a top-down view, pixel art, survival shooter that has minor melee abilities with an inventory of just six items to help you navigate across the globe.

It's a science fiction only narrative game for one player that brings the tension to life with a variety of melee weapons with weak ranges, forcing the combat fight to be played out at a weapons distance, like shotguns and pistols.

It is made up of interconnected rooms where you search for keys or objects that help solve the puzzles by combining items in secure rooms that allow you to carry the tools you need to be able to survive.

There will be SLA to fight that can be pushed when you don't have ammo in the shotguns, or pistols you encounter all over the world of games while trying to make sense of why and how you're doing the things you do in this mysterious world.

The game is initially straightforward and easy, however, you will find out that the difficulty increases dramatically in the course of the game epically, towards the end with enemies that return to life, appear out of vents and floors, plus simple, easy, yet satisfying claustrophobic boss fights.

I'd say it's not the game's fault per say, but if you progress in the game significantly in the course of 2 or 3 hours in and then stop for a couple of days, coming back can be hard since the game doesn't spoonfeed you what you were supposed to do next and because the map is a little hard to understand beginners may be put off initially however, if you follow the guides and exercise your brain muscles. Trust me when I say that the effort is worth it.

The variety of the enemy isn't as great for my liking, but it was made by two people, so I can accept that since what's available is mostly basic, classic and effective survival horror enemy game design.

Story

The game's story takes place in a futuristic future that is and is presented in a way that forces you to think and ponder the ending and meaning of the story rather than simply playing the game and then be informed about the meaning of the story. It is your job to think about it.

Personally, I found the narrative mechanics of female workers as well as the representation of female and male workers by machines of a communist-style work environment fascinating.

I won't go much in the details in order to avoid spoilers, so let me just say that it is not an easy read and leave you to determine according to my view the meaning of the story as it isn't grounded in logic or reality, per say.

Graphics/Performance
For the graphics and performance of Signalis the game, I will not be doing a deep analysis because it performs good and looks great due to its unique style of art. It's fast and flawless on any device that you can play it on, and I honestly hope it comes to mobile like iPhone and Android in the near future.

I highly recommend playing this on an OLED Tv or Monitor for it's stunning.

Since it is primarily done by two individuals, I feel it's sound production is simple and yet extremely effective in delivering claustrophobic adrenaline rush moments but with a calmness to transforms the entire experience into an adrenaline-pumping rollercoaster of horror emotions.

Achievements/Fan Service
On the achievements side, the game is actually easy to get all the achievements and according to trueachievements.com, you can get them all with an 8 to 10 hours. You could even complete it faster if you would like to speed it up.


On the side of fan service to the matter, the anime Japanese inspired characters have cute, gorgeous, big eyes, and the feminine figure is represented by the art style and it feels appropriate and satisfying. Therefore I give it a thumbs up man of culture approved and if you don't think it's enough, I'm going to advise you to touch some grass right now. Then, stop the video and go.

To end, I'll declare that this is one of those survival horror titles that be remembered in history as a straightforward yet really high-quality Indie developer. Success story game that I would recommend to anyone who loves survival horror. Specially, classical style, resident, evil, and Silent Hill titles needs to give it a chance and experience.

I don't usually replay all of my single player games fully thru so I won't working towards the additional endings, but I'm grateful and proud of having had the chance to play this amazing journey from the publisher of the rose engine.
