Microsoft Reveals 'Minecraft' Has Astonishing 112 Million Monthly Players

Minecraft
It's been pretty clear to anyone who's been paying to the news that Minecraft is experiencing an increase in popularity lately, but now we actually can quantify that to some extent.
Microsoft told Business Insider this week that Minecraft has increased to 112 million monthly users an increase of 20 million on the October 2018 figures. The game is now more than a decade old and is more relevant than ever.
There are many explanations for the recent popularity of Minecraft. A new update was released in the midst of the ten-year anniversary and included lots of new content. PewDiePie is a 100 million-subscriber YouTuber, is the one who brought the game back to the "influencer" scene. His channel was devoted to Minecraft for the past few months. Fortnite's decline has been slow as players move on from the massive hit to other games, such as Minecraft.
Minecraft's rise is even greater when you consider that it is not free on the majority of platforms like Fortnite. Although some may credit Microsoft for including it in the Xbox Game Pass to increase its player count, others might not.
Fortnite seems to know that Minecraft is attracting less players, which is why we've witnessed the creation of Creative Mode in that game and the continued dedication to building it out. Minecraft remains the original and should continue to grow its popularity with the release of new games like Minecraft Dungeons. This game combines the original with Diablo-like looting, and Dungeons.

In general I hear the exact feedback from Minecraft players that it's a game they enjoy returning to after some time. In this instance, there was an effect of snowballs in which so many people returned to it together that it was as if old friends could all join the game at the same time and have the same fun now as they did three to eight years ago.
Although it seemed odd at the time, Microsoft's purchase of Minecraft for $2.5 billion was a smart choice. They now have one of the most loved games in the world. I'm willing bet that Minecraft has 112 million monthly players which is more than Fortnite at the moment. It could even be competing with mobile games on the same level. It's truly amazing.
Expect Minecraft to last for the rest of time. It will be relevant in the future with new releases like Minecraft Dungeons, Minecraft Earth, and the AR play which will focus on Pokemon GO in the near future.
