So I haven't played on a WoW private server since 2016, or even earlier (Kronos Vanilla). I played classic WoW which was a lot of fun, but now since TBC was released, the servers died down, and I've really missed vanilla alot. Are there any private servers for vanilla that are doing well or are they all gone?
The two major server right now are custom, vanilla + and turtle wow, each with a peak of 1000 pops.
The options that are blizzlike include darrowshire and Kronos I haven't heard of them in a while , however I recently heard that they had a population of 300 people I'm not sure whether this is true or not.
There's also the chromiectaft. It's vanilla content on 3.3.5 with raids overturned as compensation. It's currently at 1000 pop , but will eventually be upgraded to TBC once vanilla content has been completed (they're only at Mc, so there's still time).
Chromiecraft is the server I didn't even know I was looking. It checks all the boxes and I just found it.
custom vanilla servers are doing well, not sure about pure vanilla.
Kronos for pure vanilla PVP (you can also play Darrowshire but the quality isn't as good as Kronos).
Turtlewow for alternative vanilla PVP with PVE option.
How do you make the kronos pop? people levelling?
They are all dead on Vanilla servers at present, unfortunately due to SOM/Classic. The only ones that are still alive are those that are custom.
There are a variety of custome vanilia servers. I am currently playing on V+, (vanilia plus). It features excellent class rebalancing features, as well as the ability to mob and also changed the majority of the items.
It's great because it takes the best stuff from vanilia and remixes several other elements, giving it a fresh feel to it to re-explore possibilities and explore new ideas but still feel familiar.
There are also other servers available, so just look around
I'll have to look into vanilla plus which sounds interesting
Turtle wow. Has a hardcore mode...ironman challenge. Gives a new life to WOW.
A negative for me is the server has custom races added including high elf (BE essentially but ALLY sided) and goblins...
What's wrong with custom races? They're not required, and old races are still available. The team is interested in Warcraft lore, so those aren't random additions.
Grn online
I would say Turtle WoW is my most favorite.
