Seven Spectacular Minecraft Creations

Seven stunning Minecraft creations by Joe Miller Technology reporter

Many of us remember being first introduced to Minecraft by Microsoft when it announced it would pay $2.5bn (PS1.5bn), for the company behind the game that has the highest sales.

For many years, a dedicated community has been creating intricate cyberspace-based marvels in Minecraft for a long time.

Here are seven of the best:

Game of Thrones

Mapmakers WesterosCraft is with a goal: to recreate the world George RR Martin created in the Game of Thrones books. The goal is to create a space for role-playing in the fantasy world.

A working 16-bit computer

A Minecraft gamer who goes by the username ohmganesha built a functioning 16-bit laptop in less than two weeks. The virtual machine has 32 bytes of RAM (random-access memory) and 256 bytes of ROM (read-only memory).

This Cathedral

Patrix the architect of the cathedral said that it took him only a couple of nights to construct. He also said that he'd never been to a cathedral in his real life.

A working hard drive

Cody Littley's hard drive can hold a single kilobyte of data, which may seem unimpressive when compared with normal discs, until you consider that Mr. Littley - PhD student in computer science in Texas - built it piece-by-piece.

An entire city

The Aurora City Project artists admit that the project might never be finished. However, the intricate cityscapes show why. Here are several pictures.

All of Denmark

The Danish government's quest to get the entire country mapped using Minecraft was initiated to educate children. However, the project was subsequently vandalised, with portions of the landscape being destroyed using virtual "dynamite".

A playable guitar

Disco Minecraft's creator, Disco, can play 10 basic open chords on his cyber guitar. strongcraft A demonstration can be seen here.
