Minecraft the End: how to find an end to The Portal

Are you interested in stepping into The End? Here's how to find an End Portal in a stronghold and how you can create an End Portal in creative mode

Looking for an End Portal in Minecraft? If you're looking to travel to The End, then there's only one means of transport - an End Portal. It requires commitment to leap into a new dimension. Once you've entered the End Portal, you can't go back.



We're sure that you have your reasons to visit the End. Perhaps you're looking to defeat the Ender Dragon or get some precious resources such as End Stone or Chorus. Perhaps you simply enjoy the endless, dark view of the End. To get there you must enter an End Portal.



End Portals can only be located in the portal room of strongholds. To locate a stronghold, you'll need to use Eye of Enders to lead you to their location, before digging quite deep beneath to locate it. Once you've found it you'll see it hanging over a pool of lava. The majority of End Portals have some Eyes of Ender in place with an 80% chance of generating with an existing eye.



The End Portal activated will instantly take you to the End. There is no way to stop it. Once you reach the End, you will spawn on a central island, with smaller islands around for exploration. You'll have to defeat the Ender Dragon on the main island in order to access the outer islands , or leave The End. This will open up an opportunity to either complete the game' and return to the regular Minecraft overworld as we know it or further explore the outer islands.



How do you create an End portal in Minecraft



While survival mode requires you to find a stronghold in order to open an End Portal, creativity allows you to create your own. Here's how to activate an End Portal:



12 x Eyes of Ender 12 x Portal Frame Blocks



Create a 3x3 square on the ground, and when you are standing within that zone, you must line your Portal Frame Blocks across the edges of that 3x3 square.



Whatever the case, whether you built your own or discovered an End Portal in a Stronghold Place all 12 Eyes of Ender in their respective blocks to activate it. The portal will not open when only one Eye of Ender is placed horizontally. It will be evident that it's working when you cannot see the lava (if you're looking at the stronghold version) and the ground (your created version).
