Are you looking for the Minecraft shader that ray-traces? Real-time lighting effects are a major feature in high-fidelity games, such as Battlefield V or Metro Exodus. However, they are also available in the massive world that is Minecraft. Modders have developed a ray tracing shader for use in the classic building game.



Okay this isn't Ray Tracing exactly technically speaking the rendering technique modder Sonic Ether employs to create real-time global illumination in Minecraft is known as path tracing. Path tracing uses rays which bounce several times throughout the scene. However, the effect is very similar to that of ray tracer: stunningly illuminated and shadowed areas even in a simple game like Minecraft.



The results are pretty astonishing: beautiful beams of sunlight angle through the glass ceiling onto a sparkling reflective floor. A torch emits a realistic warm glow in the second. Minecraft ray tracing

Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders Renewed can be downloaded to allow ray-tracing to work in Minecraft. The shader is currently in version 1.0.1, updated in February, 2020. Here's the official description "SEUS Renewed is a reinvention of the old versions of SEUS that provides high-quality visuals with a reasonable performance using traditional rasterization-based rendering. There are a few unreleased development versions of SEUS Renewed, but most of my time spent developing is spent creating SEUS PTGI."





Minecraft Ray tracing without an RTX graphics card

There is another version of SEUS currently in development, dubbed SEUS PTGI, with PTGI standing for "Path Traced global Illumination". This is a custom software application for ray tracing that does not require an RTX card. It will require an Nvidia graphics card to function however AMD compatibility is being considered. There's no word on when a version of SEUS PTGI will be available in a downloadable state.





Minecraft With RTX

The Windows 10 version of Minecraft is now equipped with Nvidia's RTX capabilities, but there are some limitations. First of all you'll require a powerful computer that has an Nvidia RTX GPU , or a support AMD GPU. To download this version of Minecraft go to the website of Nvidia.



Mojang has curated a lot of Minecraft creations that you can explore once you have installed Minecraft with RTX. These worlds are accessible on the Minecraft Marketplace. However, they don't cost costs. Raytracing effects are extremely difficult to run without an RTX 2000 series or higher card, so don't feel too bad if you can't maintain a stable frame rate.
