微整形「不開刀」，傷口小、恢復快，但改變限於局部，效果也較難持久；而整形則是「開刀」的手術，需要局部麻醉甚至全身麻醉，效果明顯、維持時間久，但侵入性較高。 不過，這在當時只是小規模的民間治療，一直要到了西元前6世紀，印度一名叫妙聞（Sushruta）的外科醫生出現，整形手術才開始被大多數人認識。 妙聞曾詳細用7各步驟記錄下來鼻子整型手術的流程，另外，他也紀錄了像是耳垂、嘴唇的修補方式。 這些記錄後來被翻譯成阿拉伯文，隨後跟著阿拉伯世界擴張、十字軍東征，來到了歐洲。
材料成本從數千元到數萬元都有，可是實際上鼻背的價差並沒有那麼大。 鼻背的價位的改變大部份還是針對醫師的使用習慣跟個人的條件適合的東西組成。 一般結構式隆鼻基本上需要約3公分以上的長度，如果又合併使用異體肋骨，成本就已經會再增加二萬～四萬了。 這樣的手術較為傳統，一般的價位大概是在五萬～六萬。
