Sony Ericsson to Showcase over 20 Brand new Games Optimized for Xperia Play

In our Xperia Play review, we were critical of the inability to find games that are specifically adapted for the handheld's controls. It's not a bad thing to note that there are a variety of new games coming out including some classics and others new, all designed to work with this particular style of button-mashing. Headline titles include Minecraft (a port that we've seen before) as well as Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both of which have been accumulating headshots on iOS devices for some time currently. For the full list of titles, read the press release after the break. But don't be expecting any pricing or availability. These details will be revealed at E3 next week when the Xperia Play will compete for attention alongside the Sony NGP. It's likely that we'll be twitching our thumbs until it's time to spin them vigorously.

London, June 2, 2011 - Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Gameloft again to offer an exclusive experience for its top gaming phone Xperia(tm) PLAY. This exclusive experience offers access to Tom Clancy's action-packed spy thriller shooter Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Shadow Vanguard, adapted by Ubisoft. Taking full advantage of the outstanding graphics capabilities of the smartphone and game-changing controlpad, Xperia(tm) PLAY brings the high-octane international action adventure to the Android operating system for the first time. The Android version of the game, which will be launched on Friday 3rd June, will be accessible only to Xperia(tm) PLAY customers in Western Europe throughout June and July.



The game is based on the well-known Ubisoft video game franchise Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is one of the most well-known video game brands. It's a high-energy , tactical first-person shooter that is based on a fictional international counter-terrorist group named "Rainbow." The game is more focused on stealth and tactics rather than firepower alone, weapons (including assault rifles as well as handguns of high caliber) as well as uniforms, equipment and uniforms are selected to match the individual's abilities and mission.

In June and July of 2011 consumers across Western Europe who have an Xperia(tm) Play will be able to download a free copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard. During this time , the game will be available for Android only on the Sony Ericsson Xperia(tm) PLAY.

Sony Ericsson also announced 20 new games, of which 10 are exclusive, specifically designed for Xperia(tm), PLAY. Many of the games will be on display at E3, the world's largest games fair, from June 7-9.



The new titles appeal to a wide range of users and occasions, from innovative multi-player online games (MMOs) to immersive titles that are graphically rich casual content.



The most notable of the titles that were announced today is Minecraft(tm), the much sought-after game from Swedish indie developer Mojang. Minecraft(tm) is one of the most popular game franchises in history with more than eight million registered users announced to date and more than 50,000 new players joining every day.



Sony Ericsson can confirm that new games from Sony Computer Entertainment's stable of classic PlayStation 1 titles will be coming to Xperia(tm) PLAY shortly.



Sony Ericsson supports the Android ecosystem through partnership with industry leaders like Unity and Havok. This partnership is helping to create an ever-growing ecosystem. Sony Ericsson is launching a programme to support and find new upcoming innovative developers named "Stand out from the crowd" which allows game developers to be part of the Xperia(tm) PLAY story and get their games the exposure they require. Sony Ericsson will be present at E3 in Los Angeles, June 7-9 for the first-hand demos of Xperia(tm) PLAY and many of the latest games at the Sony Ericsson booth 713.
