First Semester of the Msc. Games Technology in Game Programming we were assigned the final task to develop a game using the Simple Render Engine (SRE). Our group deciced to create a basic Minecraft-clone, with the main interesting of creating a correct voxel data structure together with chunk manangement.
The end result is a basic game with the same gameplay like Minecraft: You can mine blocks and then place them. We added some small features, like flying, and added texture to the particle system. But the most important issue is that we managed to achieve an unbeatable 60FPS gaming experience. There are 262,144 voxels.

The most difficult aspects were mesh generation, optimisation and data structure. However, the majority of our teaching was also focused on 2D together with SRE being target towards 2D therefore making games in 3D graphics have of course added to the difficulty. The majority of the engine also supports Box2D for Physics. In our case, we implemented Bullet Physics which also added an extra layer of complexity due to none of us having experience with the tool and no lecture based on the library.
