While players have for a long time been allowed to charge for access to private Minecraft servers that they control, the guidelines for usage of the company insist that "all players should have access to the same features" on these servers. This is in direct contradiction to the principal reason behind NFTs, which Mojang defines as "digital ownership that is founded on the concept of scarcity or exclusion", which is not in line with Minecraft values of creativity, inclusion playing with others and sharing.
Mojang is also concerned about "instances in which NFTs were sold artificially or fraudulently exaggerated prices" and situations in which NFT assets "may require an asset manager, who could disappear without notice." These sorts of issues indicate that "some third-party NFTs may not be reliable and may end up costing those who purchase them," Mojang warns.
Mojang keeps a sliver an opportunity for the future NFT applications that might "allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming." The company says it has no plans to incorporate blockchain technology into Minecraft.
An external rug pull?
