These Minecraft Ancient City Redesigns Are Gloriously Green

Minecraft builders are renovating 1.19 update's old cities as if they never were ruined.

As if the dark and gloomy weren't daunting enough, intrepid builders are out here pulling off whole revamps of Minecraft 1.19's massive new cities. There's a bit of small building happening in between other projects.

The massive structures that have been destroyed deep beneath are frightening by default: ruined pillars dotting the darkness, covered in sculk blocks and screaming shrieks ready to summon a warden should you not be careful when you enter their territory.

Perhaps the wardens are unhappy because their homes are in disrepair. Luckily, these builders are working to bring the ancient cities back to their imagined former glory. Some have been completely overhauled with lush cave vegetation to prove they used to be life-sustaining genuine cities. Others have added legends of their own and illuminate the darkness with a plethora of bright blocks. At least one decided to keep the spooky vibe. Maybe the ancient cities were always dangerous. The most daring of these builders have completed their construction in a the strictest of ways, not being creative. I won't be caught doing that.

These builds utilize the best Minecraft texture packs and shaders to create vivid auras. I've collected some of the most amazing old city designs and models available today, along with a the link to the designer who designed the designs. This isn't the end of Minecraft's amazing creations. We've also collected some really impressive desert temple designs as well as underwater bases and many more of the top Minecraft builds.

The restored city of Unsorted Guy rolls back the deep dark to a time before it was destroyed by wardens and sculk. Unsorted Guy shows how he started by replacing all the sculk in the city with deepslate blocks. He also converted the ceilings into stalactites and brought in tons and tons of vines from the lush caves. Unsorted Guy also relocates grass blocks, excavates a stream, and builds his own version of an old city farm. This place was once alive. Servers The final design has a mountain-city vibe due to all the water.

I'm getting huge Atlantis vibes from this reimagined ancient city by Andyisyoda. There's plenty of greenery that is being added to this site. I suppose no one wants to imagine that these underground cities were always grey and uncolored, right?

In the build timelapse video embedded above, you can watch Andyisyoda building high-fantasy bridges over a layer of water that is covered in vines. They kept some of the spookiness alive with an lava moat which circles the giant portal. They have a whole sunken city, surrounded by towers and massive draping greenery.

Fixxitt412 managed to design a city entirely by hand, and in hardcore survival mode. This means that there's no life after death. It took Fixxitt412 100 days. The construction of Fixxitt is also lush with manicured areas that are brimming with farms and flowers. But, they haven't eliminated all the sculk completely, which is good.

The building has a magical feel to it, with lots of lights and stained-glass emanating from the copper conduits at the top of the central portal. There are even homes for the villagers to live in the deep darkness. I'm wondering how long they'll last.

Another lush subterranean city was built by RandomGgames (opens in new tab) and OceanManRulesZaWardo. The one that is more overgrown and may be as abandoned as other cities of the past. Like these other gorgeous green buildings, this one makes use of tons of vines and leaves, bringing in some classic old glowstone blocks to light. The pair seem to have removed all sculk in the area and replaced it with wooden walkways, arches of deep slate, and other landscaping elements.

This "build" is actually just two images (opens in a new tab) but not a fully-fledged undercity, but it's an amazing image that I couldn't help to include it for all the other people on the scene.

This is the complete opposite of all the calming green and serene recreations that Seggie has created of the old city. Seggie could have made this city more frightening than a Nether fortress had it ever happened. The skull archway and the blue flames are seriously foreboding.

Okay I'm not sure if this is a Minecraft build at all. This Lego set is based on the Veyniac540's old cities (opens in an entirely new tab). But come on, that's really cool. If you're interested in building it yourself, they've got the instructions and parts list (opens new tab). After you're done playing Minecraft there are components and directions to guide you.
