How complicated would a roleplaying style small campain be to setup?

Ok so, some context. Me and a friend have a yearly thing every summer where we prepare a server and host an event for our friends on it. Every year it gets more complex and advanced, and we have tons of fun making it, and seeing people's reaction to it. The last two years have been focused on PVP but we want to change the formula. This year we want to go all out, we were thinking about a more streamlined approach, instead of having a PVP event, we would love to host the server has some kind of roleplaying event, with areas, trials, all the good stuff. We really don't want any mods, just plugins, my main concerns were things like : Syncing music to a discord bot, having plugins to setup trials and success conditions, having potential bosses or custom enemies. How doable is all of this in 8-10 months? Are there any plugins that could help setting up stuff like this? Thanks! I'd like to learn more about coding and server ownership. what are your tips to build a great server or running it effectively? (and programming too, If you are coding, why not?)

Ive been running a server now for about a month, and while i've had some run ins with stuff like this never have i gotten into it and desired it as much as i do now. i want to run this stuff well but i often run into so many blocks which i know i could fix easily if i knew the tool. (same goes for coding, sentence could be changed to coding , add a month, and call it a day)



So, what are your best practices, tricks, Simple things that can be easily overlooked, and that have MASSIVELY improved your life, Saved you time, or helped create an amazing environment? These are just general guidelines. If you find something that doesn't fit, but is still useful then please share it!

(i run a modded server running my own mod pack for context)



more advanced things I'm trying to become aware of are things like mods for reducing lag effectively, how to manage the high stress environment that massive mods bring. looking through logs to identify problems and fix them effectively (again this isn't the place to ask, but still may as well ask). how do i know which mods are in conflict or interact in bizarre ways?



It's a mix of random bs questions. I don't care about what you decide to answer, I just want to be patient and learn as much as i can. Thanks for the help!





















Plugin to address the issue of chainkills

Hi all admins of all other servers, im launching another edition of my small server for friends (or rather friends + who my friends invite +who the friends of my friends invite+⅓will be random people that noone knows who found our discord on disboard ) and so as of this time i plan or expanding the server by promoting it so that more strangers join



So, problems arise. I'm still trying to maintain the smp-style of the server, however i imagine it being difficult and more difficult as more people join, and in order to discourage players from acting like it's a lifesteal or fighting on sight i want to create a system where every kill you get debuffs you for a couple of minutes, or that if someone gets too many kills in an amount of time, they are rewarded with 15 minutes of tempban/freeze. is there a plugin or way to add one of these functions to the game? If not, is there a way to create an commandblock that can do that? (Will this work? Scoreboard that is able to count kills. It resets every 7 minutes. A command block that debuffs people when they get more than three kills. Between 3 and 5 kills you are weak or slowness. Between 6 and 7 , you'll be rewarded with slowness and weakness and 8 kills gives you a teleport to the cage. (The final part of this is accomplished with command blocks.

My friends are experiencing performance problems on my home server. Their clients are far from the server, their interactions with the world take an extremely long time (tens of seconds) as if they were lagging. They can see me move effortlessly however, they only see me move for a long time after I've moved.



The server's TPS is good and I have no issues playing through my network IP. Their ping to my network IP is fine. The only sign that something is not right is their low connection bar ingame. Sometimes there isn't a problem.



If it's pertinent, we weren't having this issue on a lightly modded Fabric server. It was occurring, so it appears that this is wrong.



I would appreciate any assistance in to solve this issue, and I am able to provide more information if necessary.
