I personally think that the United States Government did not have a right to remove the Indians from their land. To start, the Indians had the land first. And the missionaries said in the document that they should keep their land because many of the Cherokee Indians are trying to fit in. They were dressed like the settlers around them. Many families raise their own cotton [and] and make a great part of their clothing. The dwellings of the mass of Cherokees are comfortable log cabins. Also, the women generally manufacture adequate clothing for themselves.
In contrast, President Jackson Thought it was right to remove the Indians from their lands. Jackson said they were "not trying to assimilate" but he just wanted the land. HIs stance was that the United States could use the land better then the Cherokee Indians.
In summary, that's why I personally think that the US Government did not have a right to remove the Indians from their land. They were on the land first and the missionaries said they were trying to assimilate.
