Avanos Medical has recalled the Cortrak*2 Ental Access System in response to injuries and deaths caused by incorrect placement of the nasoenteric tube. The recall affects 629 devices that were sold in the United States.
Avanos has promoted the Cortrak*2 Entraal Access System to aid in the installation of a medical-feeding tube. There have been numerous injuries, including respiratory failure, pneumothorax or collapsed lung perforation (a hole through the lung's wall or bowel) as well as the pleural effusion. This is excess fluid between your lungs and your chest cavity.

The Avanos warning is the second warning that the FDA issued in 2022 about tube feeding through the stomach. In February, the FDA issued a warning to parents and healthcare providers regarding the risk of strangulation when children are fed through feeding tubes. Two cases of strangulation in children were reported in 2021. the result of a tubing device that was wrapped around the patient's neck.
