Hello GamesMOOC Participants!
Sherry Jones is the Rhetoric & Game Studies instructor for rgMOOC. This course is a college-level Rhetoric and Composition that explores various theories of rhetoric to understand the meaning of digital video games. During rgMOOC 2 (September 2-10 November 10 13) @TheGameMole (Stephen Getter) along with me created and distributed the Minecraft Challenge to participants of rgMOOC to create an object of rhetoric in Minecraft. Are you ready for the challenge?
In collaboration with the GamesMOOC, we are posing the same Minecraft Challenge to you! If you're interested in joining us in Minecraft, please start reviewing the Minecraft Challenge Rules now to prepare for the object you'd like to create! On December 7 2013, 2013 (Saturday) I and @TheGameMole will construct nostalgic game objects together in Minecraft.
rgMOOC Minecraft Challenge! (Higher-Ed Edition)
Create a character or iconic object from a popular game, like a board game, a card game or a video game etc. The game should be so popular that people can guess what game your character or object comes from.
You can work on your own or as part of a team.
You are not permitted to tell anyone outside of your group what game character or iconic object you are creating prior to and during the Minecraft Challenge. You can place signs next to your project that offer hints, but not making the game's name known.
editum
Your project must be at least 10 blocks wide and 10 blocks tall however, it must not be more than 50 blocks in any direction.
At least one block has to be placed on the ground in your project. Your entire project is not able to be lifted above the ground.
Your entire project has to be made from wool. There are a variety of colors of wool available in your store. There is one exception to this rule (see below).
Your character or iconic object must be created in the color scheme distinct from the game's (e.g. What would Kirby look like in blue? ).
It isn't important if it is logical in the game you choose, but you must include at least one of these items:
Table
Door
Barrel
Car truck, bus, or car
Book
Chair
Animal
Clock
Bonus! Bonus!
Moving Parts - These could be doors that open with the push of a button or mine carts that take your audience through your project, or any other moving parts that you could include in it. This is the only exception to the rule of using wool blocks. Any blocks that are required to move these parts may be used. However, the rest of your project should remain made of wool.
Perspective Play - Play with your viewers' perspective by making your work appear as one thing from one direction and an entirely different thing from another direction (e.g. You can see Pacman when looking from the West, but you see a ghost when you look from the North). Every perspective must feature iconic characters or objects from the same game.
