The new instructions tell users to verify the positioning of the tube in accordance with their institution’s protocols before making use of them to deliver nutritional supplements.
Patient's vocal cords, lungs and trachea could be damaged if the nasogastric/nasoenteric tube was placed in a wrong way. This could result in grave injury or even death.
Avanos Medical has issued a recall communication stating that since 2015, there has been 60 deaths of patients and 23 injuries due to misplacement nasogastric feeding tube. Avanos Medical feeding tube Cortrak 2 eternal access system Affected events include respiratory failure and pneumothorax (collapsed lung), perforation (a hole in the lung's wall, esophagus, or bowel) and pneumonia (a lung infection) and pleural effusion (excess fluid that has accumulated in the lung space and the chest cavity).
Avanos Medical issued a correction notice to customers who had used these devices from January 2021 through January 2022 on March 21, 2022. Cortrak 2 eternal access system The notice contained the following information:
