A Testimony of Normality
I have not the most interesting testimony in the world, nor does it have any likelihood of making grown men cry, but I have used it before, and I am sure that I can use it to change the life of someone. I start my testimony at birth, basically. I was born into an Adventist family, which is most of the reason that I go to GCA today. We would go to church every week, sing bible songs, and watch VeggieTales like any good Adventist family should. Throughout my whole life, I had a childlike knowledge that God was, indeed, out there. Of course then again, so were whales as big as a bus, and microscopic animals that could survive basically anything, so I wasn’t really all that personal with God. I did believe he protected me, and helped me, and somehow made food healthier if you prayed before a meal, and even had a couple of stories that I could swear God helped me with. But, of course, with age, my childlike (and already rusty) faith was made stale. It was not dwindling, per se, and I definitely wasn’t questioning God’s existence, and I believe that that was exactly the problem. I had always been spoon fed all of this amazing information about an all powerful man in the sky who would help you any time you needed it, and I accepted it all, without question, as fact, and never once seriously doubted. The time when my faith was probably the most tested, however, was when I went to Camp Kalaqua. I had done it many times before, for about eight years throughout the length of my life, and it had always been a pretty good experience. Cub year was still me in my invincible form, and throughout juniors years I made it pretty well, however, my two years of teen camp became quite a challenge that I was not quite prepared to handle. I had been sheltered, it seems, a bit too much, and was shocked by the behavior of some of the kids there. I did not want to hear about their religious views, as I had closed my mind to any concept of their views. I know it seems snobbish, but I was almost embarrassed to share our religion. Then I came to GCA, and I had never seen such a place where God was so active in the populous. Kids on campus were all showing God in some way, even if they were not trying to. I had a chance to make my stale faith in God new. I could show God in a way that I had never done before, and ask questions with people who would be happy to answer them. Since then, I have tried to return the favor, accepting each question of whether God exists as a challenge. I have gotten to know him a lot better, and try to attribute everything in my life as something he has given me. With this friendly God by my side, I am finally able to do things with confidence, knowing that I can trust him.
