'Minecraft' October Updates are Big Deals for VR and Tweakers

Minecraft is close to some updates that could seriously alter how you play when you want to play with the game's mechanics... or simply immerse yourself in the virtual world. A new update due out on the 18th of October for Minecraft's Windows 10, Pocket and Gear VR editions will introduce Add-Ons that allow you to alter how objects and characters behave by altering text files. Do you want giant chickens, or Creepers that cause massive explosions? It's simple to make. Consider it an entry point into the world of game mods without having to learn programming.



VR gamers receive better controller support. You can use the Bluetooth-equipped Xbox One gamepad (like the one that ships with the Xbox One S) in the Windows 10 or Gear VR versions of the game, and PC gamers who have an Oculus Rift can utilize Oculus Touch hand controllers. If Minecraft in VR still feels like an ordinary PC or mobile game for the moment however, it should become an experience that is more distinct following the update.



The new software adds boss battles to Windows 10, Pocket, and Gear VR versions.



Console players won't need to wait until the 18th to have something new, though. XWCB Mojang and Microsoft are releasing a Chinese Mythology Mash-Up. This will introduce characters and a setting inspired by China's culture. You'll also find banners and more biological biomes that are logical, like polar bears and igloos in arctic climates. The update will be released for Xbox and Wii U gamers on October 4th and PlayStation players on October 5th.
