'Minecraft: Education Edition' The Game will be Available In Early Access

A new version of Minecraft developed for the classroom is now available in early access. Minecraft Education Edition was released in January as part of Microsoft's acquisition of MinecraftEdu, which is a group that has been working on the game for teachers. The replacement will be available free of charge this summer, before a per student pricing model is launched for the academic year. As a small gesture of gratitude, Microsoft has promised existing MinecraftEdu customers a year of free access to Education Edition -- presumably it will begin when the early access trial wraps up.



The Education Edition of Minecraft has some advantages over the standard version. From the beginning, up to 30 students can learn and work together in the same virtual world, negating the need to set up an individual server using a service like Minecraft Realms. Teachers can create non-player characters (NPCs) to create a more guided experience, and provide them with web-based links to allow students access additional resources. A chalkboard can be used to offer instructions, and students can also utilize a camera to capture pictures of their work, and then create an in-game portfolio.



Microsoft says it is still working on other features that have been requested by the community. Wolf Script This includes a new interface that gives teachers the option of a map (with markers for every student) as well as the possibility of teleporting users (should they start to mess around or wander off in a random way) and chat windows for managing conversations in the classroom and private. Minecraft has already proven to be a highly effective educational tool. It is able to teach the arts, geology, and even coding. There is an official version available for schools.
