So, why is Minecraft So Popular?

Sorry, "Fortnite" fans - "Minecraft" continues to be a dominant game, just as it has done for a long time. Helen Chiang, the head of "Minecraft" studios spoke to Business Insider by phone this week. She claimed that the game now has more than 112 million players every month. "Over the past five years since the acquisition, 'Minecraft' has continuing to grow," she said.

"Minecraft" is an exceptional case of a game that has "long legs". It continues to make money for many years in a hit-driven industry, where sales charts often look like a hockey stick.

The juggernaut of culture that is "Minecraft" has been in existence for more than 10 years.

Despite other major games such as "Fortnite", "Roblox" and "Roblox," "Minecraft" remains a dominant game that is not terribly loud.

As of this week, the game now has over 112 million players per month.

This is a rise of more than 20 million players since the last time Microsoft announced as much, back in October 2018 - an incredible increase in players considering the game has been around for more than 10 years. The figure includes players on gaming consoles, computers mobile devices, as well as the educational version of the game.

It's not surprising that "Minecraft" even though it is free on a variety of platforms, is not free.

The thousands of new gamers "Minecraft" added in the last year bought the game in one way or another, regardless of whether it was via a direct purchase of a physical copy at stores or as part of Microsoft's popular Game Pass subscription service or the purchase of digital copies.

Early success has lasted

Since its first release, the game has been a huge success. "Minecraft" was an in-progress game developed by Markus "Notch” Persson. It had rudimentary graphics and controls. It was only accessible for PC. It was susceptible to break, since it was an unfinished game being made by a single person.

Yet, millions of people bought and played the first version of "Minecraft."

The tech industry was shocked and puzzled when Microsoft bought the game in 2014 for $2.5 Billion.

However, this initial success was largely under the control of Microsoft over the last five years.

"What we find is it's an experience that people keep returning to," Helen Chiang (Minecraft) director of the studio, said to Business Insider in a telephone interview this week. "It may not always be the game that's on the cutting edge however, as there are plenty of amazing games that continue come out however it's one they love to return to."

The reason 'Minecraft' is such a success?

So, why is "Minecraft" so well-known?

We're discussing a game that appears like this:

Imagine "Minecraft" as virtual LEGO.

It is an application that lets users to join pieces to create amazing things, right from the beginning. "Minecraft" offers endless building blocks and a blank canvas; it's your turn to create something incredible, or silly, or referential, or whatever else with the tools it offers. The tools and methods for using them are both extremely user-friendly.
