研究表明，使用煙草可以是牙周病的發生和發展的最顯著危險因素之一。 因此使用水雷射移除深度齲齒病灶時，能夠在澈底消毒牙齒硬組織的情況下，不至於造成牙髓組織發炎與壞死。
另外，因活動式假牙的設計是利用鉤子將假牙掛在口中殘存的牙齒上，容易造成食物殘渣塞在牙縫中，因此在飯後，要取下假牙來清洗，在使用上會比較麻煩。 而選用植牙重建之患者則較不會有這方面的問題。
隨著全民知識水準的提升，不任意拔除牙齒的意識抬頭，人們逐漸能領略根管治療在牙齒保存上的重大意義，因此患者與醫師的配合度以及對醫師的要求也相對提高。 然而，受限於牙齒根管系統的複雜性，以及許多較難處理病例所可能引發的併發症，傳統的治療理念或器械，往往會遇到瓶頸而急待突破。
