How to make an Iron Golem in Minecraft and what they're made for

To protect a village, make a Minecraft Iron Golem

To defend your village and its inhabitants against any threats, create an Minecraft Iron Golem. These imposing guards can defend the buildings and villagers from hostile creatures in Minecraft (opens new tab), such as zombies or skeletons, as well as raids from villagers. Unlike pretty much every other mob in Minecraft Iron Golems can be created, but they also appear naturally in villages. If you've discovered a village that's lacking an security measure in the form of an Minecraft Iron Golem, here's what you must know about creating them and how they work.

How do you create an Iron Golem from Minecraft

You don't require an Crafting Table to create an Minecraft Iron Golem. Instead, you need to put blocks in a certain formation.

The ingredients you need to make one Iron Golem are four Iron Blocks (each one consisting of nine iron Ingots placed on the form of a Crafting Table), and one pumpkinIn Java Edition, it must be a Carved Pumpkin or a Jack O'Lantern, but in Bedrock Edition, it can also be a regular pumpkin. To make it look like an iron scarecrow place the Iron Blocks into a T shape and then add the Pumpkin in the middle. Look at the picture above!

As as long as there aren't connecting blocks on either side (other that the floor it placed on Of course) Placing the Pumpkin last should cause an Iron Golem to spawn. As long as you have the materials you'll be able to do this as many times as you like to create your own personal army.

What Iron Golems in Minecraft do

You can better protect yourself by using Minecraft Netherite armor

Iron Golems are sworn to protect villagers and players, provided you don't attack them. They're classed as neutral mobs so, unlike cattle, pigs and similar iron Golems will leave you be but will attack you if and when you attack them.

An Iron Golem will slowly roam the village, scouting it when it is created within the village. If it's not located in the village it will move towards the closest one, and likely fight any hostile mobs along the way. If an Iron Golem takes damage, the player can heal it by using an Iron Ingot on it.

If you've got enough Iron and have a village or base you'd like to defend, Iron Golems are the best option. You can't name them as you can with normal pets however, unfortunately. You may want to learn how to tame an elk in Minecraft in case you're looking for an animal companion.
