Students at the University of Pennsylvania are recreating their campus with "Minecraft" after COVID-19 concluded their school year early. - Events including graduations and weddings have been put online to "Minecraft," "Animal Crossing," and other online games since the coronavirus spread throughout the world.

Most US colleges have shifted to remote learning for the remainder of the semester

Although the University of Pennsylvania's school year is finished, some students aren't quite ready for the departure.



A group of UPenn students set up a Minecraft server and coordinated recreating the campus in the two weeks that ended in March. They've been in contact with Brown University and Columbia University students who are working on similar projects and discussed the possibility of creating similar challenges between schools.



Microsoft bought the block-building game "Minecraft" in 2014 for $2.5billion. It has been one the most played games on the planet for the past 10 years. In September the game had 112 million active players each month, which has reportedly grown to 145 million.



Students from colleges and universities across the US have been removed from their schools and switched to remote learning for the remaining semester. Some schools switched to remote learning when a student was found to be positive for COVID-19, a coronavirus disease, while others made the switch in anticipation of. Colleges also noted the risk of returning students from spring break after they'd traveled around the world.



While they cannot be on campus, Penn students recreated the campus in detail. The work is in progress. Check out their amazing work here.
