This is What A World Of Warcraft Designer Said When Someone Complained That Blizzard doesn't listen to fans
One of the most common complaints from Blizzard players is that they don't pay attention; that feedback bounces off them like a blow horn against the brick wall. One World of Warcraft designer was able to solve this problem.
Kotaku spotted a lengthy post by Ion Hazzikostas on the World of Warcraft forums. He was responding to questions regarding the pricing of items sold by vendors. Hazzikostas explained that every decision Blizzard makes is always evaluated against a fractured web of players from different communities playing World of Warcraft who all are looking for something different, writing...
[...] There are many opinions on nearly every topic, as you can see in this thread. If I'd instead said that we were planning to rethink and drastically reduce the prices of the cosmetic products on this vendor there would be other people who felt that their input was not considered. It's exceptionally uncommon that everyone wants the same thing [...]And even there is a large silent majority that does not post on forums. wow servers We would alter our design in the event of unanimity on a certain issue.
Hazzikostas provides some important points about the tricky balancing act of adding and removing content from an MMO that attracts a large fan base as World of Warcraft. He explained that there are completely separate groups who play the MMO for various reasons, some for PvP, others for raiding, others for collecting pets, others for adventuring and world questing and even just to socialize.
These groups can be rewarded with added content. It depends on the players' interests and tastes. A PvP reward that is exclusive could upset PvE players. Players who engage in only PvP could be upset by a raid reward. Gamers who play as another race or class might feel dissatisfied if they're allowed to add clothing items to one race or class and not the other.
It's a delicate balance when it comes to handling feedback on World of Warcraft content.
Hazzikostas explained that they are open to as many groups in the World of Warcraft community as they can. Even in the face of heated discussions the developer encouraged fans to share their feedback with the developers via writing...
It's sometimes hard to believe that we don't really listen. We're - just to a variety of voices. It could be that a reward, change, or feature is targeted at a different group of players. It is possible that we are wrong and we haven't realized it yet. Keep talking.
Sometimes people claim that Blizzard doesn't listen to them. This is an untruth. It's like Nostalrius. That was a huge petition that required thousands of people to sign and other developers involved before Blizzard acknowledged that maybe... maybe close of a million people could want to play on a plain server WoW.
Even still, regarding the actual in-game content, Hazzikostas does make good points about the fractured community within World of Warcraft and how each one of them likes different things. It's difficult to appeal to everyone. Six million subscribers have been lost in the past six years. However, the developers are willing to delve into the community threads and address some of the issues.
