After careful observation and data collection, he disproved the long accepted idea of spontaneous generation and sparked the process of scientific inquiry. Scientific inquiry looks for phenomena in nature and tries to piece together these phenomena in a logical and consistent manner. This logical and consistent process is called the scientific method. Biologists follow this method in their quest to learn more about living organisms.
