The Effect of Color of Light on Amount of Photosynthesis Performed

Introduction.
Light has different wavelengths that decide its color, so it would make sense that different colors of light then might affect the amount of photosynthesis performed by a plant. In this experiment, the research question was set out to answer this conjecture – how did different colors of light affect the amount of photosynthesis done by a plant? It was hypothesized that making the light red would result in the highest amount of photosynthesis done.

Methods.
The independent variable in this experiment was the color of the light – in this case there were four variations: one in which no film was applied, and three where red, green, and blue film were applied individually from each other. The control group was the one in which no film was used, while each color of film made up an experimental group, three in total. The dependent variable, most generally, was the amount of photosynthesis done by the plant, or, to quantitatively measure it, the amount of bubbles produced by the plant per minute. To measure this, a person set a one-minute timer while another counted the amount of bubbles produced by the plant within that time. To achieve the best results and establish a more valid connection independent and dependent variable, most variables remained constant, such as the distant of the light projected onto the plant to act like sunlight from the plant, the intensity of the light on the plant, the type of plant used (Cabomba), the way by which color of light was changed (by wrapping the vial the plant was contained in completely with the colored film), and the volume of the vial the plant was contained in.
