Saul var tit i dårligt humør, men når David spillede for ham på sin harpe, blev han glad.
Saul var nemlig tit i dårligt humør, og han var jaloux. Han var hele tiden uenig med præsterne og var også ulydig mod Gud. Og Sauls dårlige humør blev bare værre og værre.
Der var dog én, der kunne muntre Saul op, og det var hyrdedrengen David. David havde slået kæmpen og filisteren Goliat ihjel med sin stenslynge, og det førte til, at Saul kunne vinde et slag i kampen mod filistrene. Saul fik altså øje på David, fordi han sloges mod en kæmpe, men David kunne andet end at besejre kæmper. Han var nemlig også rigtig god til at spille på harpe. Saul kunne godt lide, når David spillede for ham, for musikken gjorde ham i godt humør. David blev efterhånden gode venner med Sauls søn, og han blev også gift med en af kongens døtre.
