וגבה קומתו כי מאסתיהו
ואל שמואל יבוא ישי
שאמר: לא בזאת בחר אדוניי
ויסתכל ישי על בניו
ויאמר: לא בזה בחר אדוניו
משאול רוח הקב"ה סרה
ובעתתו רוח רעה
וישלח ויביאהו והוא אדמוני
איש יפה עיניים וטוב ראי
אז אמר לו ה': קום ומשחהו
משום שאין ספק שבו בחרו
וכל אנשי שאול יאמרו לעבדיהם
מצאו לי נגנים והביאוהם
יאמר נא אדונינו על עבדיך
איש נגן כינור נמצא לפניך
נמצא אז הנגן, נבון הדבר
בן לישי בית הלחמי הוא איש תואר
דוד, שאול שולח מלאכים לך
אביך אז יבוא וישלחך
ויבוא דוד לשאול, לפניו
ויהפוך נושא כליו
יאמר - יעמד נא דוד לפניי
כי מצא חן הוא בעיניי!
