Should transgender students be able to use the bathroom of their choice?
The first article is about a 10th grader Gavin who started identifying a boy and getting testosterone shots recently. He was given permission by the principal of the school to start using the boys bathroom. When parents of non-transgender students heard of this they were extremely agitated. The lawyer representing them says “Federal law should not be twisted to require that a male be given access to the girls’ facilities or a female to the boys’ facilities,” The lawyer doesn’t want gavin the one identifying as a boy to be allowed access to the male bathroom because he thinks it violates their privacy. Gavin’s case has been presented to the supreme court, but there is a chance that it could be dismissed. The second article was about a transgender boy that is set to press the supreme court case despite Trump's recent guidance. The young man says, Thursday they plan to continue to press his case before the Supreme Court, despite the Trump administration’s decision to withdraw federal guidelines that had buoyed his lawsuit. He is taking a stand for his right of fair treatment despite his being transgender. He is fighting for fair treatment no matter what he identifies as. He should be allowed this simple right in my opinion this is how he is individual just like everyone else.
