The main character's name was David Livingstone.
He went exploring in Africa and tried to map out the country.
He also preached Christianity and tried to get rid of the slavery trade.
Towards the end of the chapter David Livingstone went Lion hunting to help the villagers,
in the process a lion attacked him and he broke his arm. He refused to go back and he went to map out more landscape. He went back to England later and there he got money to try to find a river that goes into the center of Africa. He spent quite a few years doing that and then someone went to look for him.
They found him and his eye was damaged because a branch hit his eye, his broken arm never healed and was limp. Two years later he died and was shipped back to England. It was probably interesting to live back then because everyone was dressed so weird.
