Willy is responsible for his own fate as his tragic flaws led to his own downfall. Willy had an urge to become rich and successful. He would do whatever it takes as well as travelling far to different locations in his old age to satisfy his fantasy of the American Dream. First of all, Willy was very focused on becoming rich for himself and for his family. He tells his kids about his brother Ben and how he wants to be like him. Willy asks Ben. “Ben! I’ve been waiting for you so long! What’s the answer? How did you do it?”(Miller 32) This shows Willy’s drive to be just like his brother Ben who was rich and successful. Willy shows his determination and passion to become just like his brother. Willy chases after his fantasy of the American Dream which he spends a lot of time working to get money for his family and boosting his reputation in his society. Willy Loman wanted to achieve the American Dream so badly that in the end it is because of his drive for the money, is the reason for his death.
