George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 to a family of wealthy planters who owned tobacco plantations and slaves, which he inherited . Was home-educated and keen on reading books. Childhood and youth he spent in modest conditions, was engaged in self-education in his early teens. For the family he became the third of five children. Unfortunately, the family lost their father when George was only 11 years old. In 1752 George endured the death of his step-brother Lawrence, who was bringing him up after the father, inherited the estate of Mount Vernon near Alexandria, on the Potomac river and in the same year became a major of a local militia. Washington was widely admired for his strong leadership qualities.
On January 6, 1759 married a rich widow Martha Dandridge Custis and obtained a significant property of 17 thousand of land, 3 hundred of slaves and a mansion in Williamsburg. The marriage was happy, although spouses did not have children. Washington was bringing up two children of his wife from his first marriage. Owing to dilligence and stictness, he managed to increase the income of his estate and became one of the welathiest landlords in Virginia.
The precidence race was won scarcely with opponents as George was very popular with people. The first term of the presidecny began on April 30, 1789 and was finished on March 4, 1797 and later reelected for a new one. Washington did not even participate in his own election campaign. He still remains the only US president who got all the votes of the electoral college. The congress set the President's anual salary at 25 000 dollars. Yet, as a wealthy person, the salary was initially refused but later the payment was accepted.
George Washington was an exceptional person. He did not advertise his religion, had no political party, was even educated by him self. He was an independent since he reached the age of a reason. He met his demise at the age of 67 on December 14, 1799 in Mount-Vernon. The death was caused by Epiglottitis and hypovolemic shock, as George did not wish to change his wet clothes, after he spent several hours riding a horse, checking the estate and was caught in rain and snow. Being in wet and cold clothes he started to have a supper. But the next morning was his last. The soul rests at Washington Family Tomb, Mount Vernon, Virginia, U.S.
