id - biological urges; hunger and thirst
ego - thoughtful, decision-making part
(id urged you to eat and ego helped you find food)
superego - judges right from wrong aka your conscience
(superego would direct you not to steal the food that id urges you to eat)
according to Freud, people's mind operate at two levels of thought: conscious and unconscious
conscious thoughts - thoughts that a person is aware of
unconscious thoughts - unaware of the thoughts (e. forgotten childhood event)
F believe people often push unpleasant/frightening thoughts into their unconscious minds. These thoughts influence their personality even if the person is unaware.
a child's lack of parent affection might cause the child to constantly search for the approval of people in authority - teachers/bosses - this person might seem overly obedient and anxious to please others
F's way of thinking, adult personalities are shaped mainly by early childhood experiences and conflicts.
